About Danielle
My interest in childbirth began at a young age when I was introduced to a PBS broadcast of NOVA’s The Miracle of Life. I was greatly fascinated by the details of pregnancy and childbirth. It was in those years that I witnessed my own mother accomplish a vaginal birth after cesareans, sometimes called “VBA2C,” and was deeply impressed by this miraculous event. Through the years, many friends would talk openly with me about their positive birthing experiences without fear and full of empowerment. I then spent more than half a decade serving abroad in humanitarian aid to orphans as well as social work with new mothers in Hawaii. Combined with a drive to serve and the new wave of childbirth support training made available in the US, I discovered the wellspring of my calling; a focus in my efforts to serve and support others.
In 2003, I received my certification as a birth doula through Doulas of North America (DONA). I have also received training as a postpartum doula, in breast feeding support, and pregnancy massage. I have served clients in California, Hawaii, Texas and Pennsylvania; with a predominant focus on helping first time mothers. It wasn’t too long that I realized that every woman – whether a working professional, close friend, or unwed teenage girl – needed and deserved a doula. I found it incredibly rewarding to support these new mothers with education and preparation during pregnancy; physical and emotional support during labor and delivery; and companionship and encouragement during the postpartum months.
After becoming a doula, I knew I wanted to birth my own children at home. In 2007, I did just that. My firstborn son was born at home after 16 hours of back labor. I believe that the coping mechanisms and birthing positions I learned about in my doula training were imperative to the success of my vaginal and unmedicated birth experience. My passion to coach and support women were renewed when I felt the overwhelming accomplishment from birthing safely and naturally with the continuous help and loving support given by my husband, midwife and doula. In 2009, I birthed another son at home, this time in less than 5 hours and in water! My third and fourth babies were both born in under 3 hours and at a local hospital under the care of a wonderful obstetrician. I feel blessed that I was able to birth my 4 children without medical intervention, and desires that every laboring woman experiences the amazing power of their own bodies and the empowerment that comes from her own sacred experience.
